Under the direction of Dr. James E. Lorenz, our Organist & Choirmaster, St. Luke's choir plays a vital role in our celebration of the Solemn High Mass and other Feast Day celebrations, providing us with beautiful traditional liturgical music. About the Organ |
The Music Program at St. Luke's |
The pipe organ which graces St. Luke's Church is an instrument which combines the work of multiple builders. Therefore, it is nearly impossible to assign a single builder's name to it. Begun in 1997 by the late Robert W. Turner, then organist & choirmaster, and completed by Thomas Helms in 2004, the current instrument combines the pipework from the Schlicker which was built for St. Luke's in 1969, a Moller built for Trinity Cathedral in Columbia, South Carolina,a Voix humaine built by E.M. Skinner, and new pipework including the Trompette en Chamade, the Great Trompette and all mixtures. Designed in the "American Classic Style", the organ combines features representing the best of different schools of organ building. |
